The Inter-City 125s were just being introduced into service on the East Coast Main line. I went to have a look at them and at the 'Deltics' which they would eventually replace. As usual when I went out in summer the weather was awful. TheImages were taken with my trusty medium format Minolta Autocord, mostly using Tri-X film developed in Kodak D76

The Red Arrows carried out a full display practice at RAF Valley on Thursday 21st June 2007. Unfortunately one eight hawks took part, the other two remaining on the ground. The photos show the team on the ground, taxiing for take of, in display, coming in to land, taking back and lining up to re-fuel

On 9th June 66097 was in charge of the weekly aluminium train from Stanley to Warrington

On 9th June 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' hauled between Crewe and Holyhead and return 'THE WELSH DRAGON' excursion from Kettering to Holyhead and return.

On Sunday 25th June 2006 The Nantwich & District Motor Club & Cheshire MCRRC held a Road Race Meeting at Anglesey Circuit. The photos show some of the competitors in action. I hope to addd captions as I identify the competitors! If you are featured here I would be glad to have your details.

Chester Motor Club held an Anglesey Sprint Weekend on June 10th & 11th 2006 at the Anglesey Circuit. The pictures in this Gallery were taken on Saturday the 10th. Summer holiday in August 1988 was based at Freshwater East, near Tenby. This gave opportunities for some shots in this part of southwest Wales, an area I'd never visited before, or since.

On our way to Tenby in South Wales we stopped near Dolau for a couple of days and I managed a few photographs on the line near Dolau and at Llandrindod Wells.

A journey fro Bangor to Weston gave a few photographic opportunities despite pouring rain at Bangor and Crewe, showers at Newport and sunny spells at Weston.

Acouple of shots of the recently repainted Llandudno Staion and two or three shots around the terminus of the Great Orme Tramway.

Most westbound trains were running about 25 minutes late!, the 10.17 Crewe to Holyhead didn't appear at all!

Itravelled from Bangor to Weston-Super-Mare and changed trains at Crewe and Newport.

Back in the days of 47s and HSTs

Unfortunately the morning weather was not too good with mist and very low cloud which curtailed operations somewhat. Happily things improved in the afternoon but not in time to save the Bone's wings swept, fast approach and climb out, which did not materialise. In between photographing the planes I snapped the passing trains.

We spent a few days in the Rhine Valley based at Assmanshausen.

For the first time since 1987 we were on Anglesey house hunting. A quick call at llanfairpwll saw the trains formed much the same as today, apart from HST on Virgin's London service

I managed to get caught in the traffic jam at the Britannia Bridge, twice. I only managed this one shot of 57314 'Firefly' on the 14.14 Holyhead to Euston.

I went to Conwy to try to get some shots using the castle as a backdrop. I called at Llandegai and Bangor station on the way home. Virgin Trains had a bad day, the 08.57 from Euston was 30 mins late, the return trip due off Holyhead at 14.14 was reported still at Holyhead at 15.00 due to a faulty cable connection between the loco and the train!

I had a day out around Minehead with my daughter and called in at the West Somerset Railway at Blue Anchor and Minehead.

Summer saturday services on Anglesey photographed near Ty Mawr between Bodorgan and Ty Croes. some delays on the mainland , westbound trains all were 15-20 minutes late.

On my way from Manchester to visit my daughter in Weston Super Mare I had to change trains at Newport. I took the opportunity to take a few photos.

We were on Anglesey house hunting. I spent an hour or so on the station whilst Anne did some shopping.

57310 had the14.14 Holyhead to Euston 'Pendolino' haul, 158850 the 14.31 Holyhead to Llandudno Junction and 158838 the 11.33 Birmingham to Holyhead.

On holiday nearWeston Super Mare I had a day when I spent some time at Bristol TM in the morning moved on to Bath in the afternoon and then back to Weston via Bristol. These are some of the resulting pictures.

Driving along the A5 en route to the Holland Arms garden centre to buy a water feature I realised as we approached Star cross roads that the 14.14 Holyhead Euston was due to pass en route to Bangor.

We spent a week in San Diego in July 2001. The trlley was very useful for getting around especially from our hotel on Hotel Vircle to Downtown SD. The network Has been extended since then.

The Santa Fe depot is used by Amtrak San Diegans, and San Diego Northern Coasters. Also by numerous San Diego Trolley services. Seen on 11,12,13 July 2001

A quick visit to Union Station on 28th June 2001. Built in 1939, it is considered to be "The last of America's great rail stations." Located in Downtown Los Angeles on 800 N. Alameda St., between the Santa Ana Freeway (US 101) and Cesar E. Chavez Avenue (Formerly Macy St.),

I went primarily to photograph the 'Pendolino' drag, the Northern Belle appeared unexpectedly, to me at least.

We were touring around France and paused at Arras to do some essential shopping. I sneaked off to the station for a while, These photos are the result. I'm afraid I know very little about French railways so I apologise for the lack of informed captions.

Anne, my wife was at a tai Chee class in Llangefni so I popped over towards Bodorgan whilst I was waiting for her. I was intending to photograph the cl 57 Pendolino haul on the 14.14 Holyhead - Euston but it didn't run of course because of the London bombing outrage. So these were what passed during the 90minutes or so I was at the lineside. I had used the Bodorgan location before but not the other which was an overbridge to the east of Ty Croes.

I spent some time around Llanfaelog and Ty Croes picturing the passing railway scene. This area is also close to RAF Valley so the opportunity arose to photograph some Hawks in action.

A pretty grotty morning on Anglesey, with intermittent rain and quite a heavy mist. I had to take an item to the local tip which is only a few minutes from The line in the vicinity of Llanfairpwll. Light not so good these shots were taken with the ISO rating of the D70 set at 800. Given the circumstances the images are quite presentable. Had I been shooting on film I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Monday the 27th was a beautiful day on Anglesey. I went to a location that I hadn't used before, again it has been opened up by some recent vegetation clearing.

Four trains photographes at or near Llanfaipwll etc. 158818 headed west with the 12.17 Crewe to Holyhead and returned as the 14.31 Holyhead to Llandudno Junction. 57305 powered the14.14 Holyhead to Euston which should have been a 'Pendolino' but wasn't. 158837 headed east as the 11.33 Birmingham to Holyhead.

A selection of the normal service trains passing this location. A lot of tree cutting has been done here recently which has opened up the view and allowed in a good deal more light.

Having checked out the location a couple of days ago I decided to shoot the 'Duchess' near Bodorgan. Dull on the out run brighter on the return but the sun went behind the cloud as the train approached. So what else is new!!

Thursday 16th June 2005 wasn't the best of June days on Anglesey, blowing hard with lowcloud/mist. I took the opportunity to shoot the 14.14 Holyhead to Euston. This is now a Pendolino hauled by a 57 from Holyhead to Crewe since Monday 13th June. I tyook some of the other services as well.

With the introduction of the Summer Timetable the O9.00 Euston to Holyhead and 14.17 return, which was a 221 'Voyager' turn, has been re-timed to 08.57 and 14.14 respectively. It is now a class 390 'Pendolino' run which involves an additional class 57 drag from Crewe to Holyhead and back. On the first day of the new arrangement 57314 and 390041 wereused on the service and ran on time.

Not a train I know, but perhaps the next best thing. These shots are of the 'Balmoral' passing Ynys Seiriol (Puffin Island) off the eastern tip of Anglesey. She was on a cruise from Llandudno to Caernarfon via Menai Bridge. (I was on the island photographing the birds!!).

Pathfinder Tours ran a railtour from Cardiff to Holyhead and return. The steam potion of the tour featured BR Standard Pacific No 71000 Duke of Gloucester. The photographs here show the train on the outward run near RAF Valley, turning on the triangle at Valley sidings, pulling the empty stock from the sidings prior to the return leg and finally on the return run between Valley and RAF Valley.

PMR Tours operated a railtour from Bristol to Holyhead. Stanier pacific 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' powered the steam leg with Class 47 47826 at the rear to provide electric power for services. 47826 also shunted the stock at Holyhead. The pictures show the train, on the outward run, at Rhosneigr on Anglesey, and various activities around the station area at Holyhead. Sadly I contrived to miss photographing the train on the return trip.

Pathfinder Tours operated 'The Whistling Slater' railtour from Bristol to Holyhead, traversing the Conwy Valley line to Blaenau Ffestiniog en route. The pictures here show the train near Valley on Anglesey on both the outward and the return runs.

These pictures were taken over a period of about 25years from 1974 and give something of an impression of the trains and motive power used on the route overthat period of time.

A friend at college, Dave Marchant, had a little car and we made a Wednesday afternoon visit to the Wolverhampton area in the early summer of 1965. First stop was the former Great Western Low Level Station. Later on we had a wander around Oxley shed and finally paid a flying visit to Stourbridge Junction. BR Western Region were intending to dispense with steam by early 1966 and the Wolverhampton area was one of the last strongholds of steam on the region. Star of the day was 7034 'Ince Castle' one of the last five 'Castle' class locos in service. The colour shots here are amongst my earliest, sadly the Agfa slides haven't aged too well. If only I had used Kodachrome!!

The weather in Amlwch seemed to be improving so I took Anne, my wife, into Llangefni to attend a Tai-Chee session, and carried on to Bodorgan, with a view to photographing the passing traffic. The weather worsened, with rain sweeping in from the sea. One or two worthwhile shots were forthcoming nonetheless

On Saturday 9th April an excursion from Ashford to Holyhead was hauled from Crewe by 6233 Duchess of Sutherland. The train was delayed smewhat at Bromley South apparently because of a points failure . Having missed its path it was about an hour down at Crewe. 47829 was attached to the rear of the train at Crewe to provide heating to and from Holyhead. Unfortunately the weather was cold and wet and frequent recourse was made to the car to warm up.The shots here were all taken in the vicinity of Valley. I had intended to photograph the return trip, but by the time the train left Holyhead an hour lat I'd given up and gone home for a warm. The other shots of course are the normal service trains.

I Left Manchester from Piccadilly Station and Changed to the Doncaster train at Sheffield. I was hoping for a nice sunny day but it turned out to be as dull as ditch water
