I called at Llandegai and Bangor station on the way home. Virgin Trains had a bad day, the 08.57 from Euston was 30 mins late, the return trip due off Holyhead at 14.14 was reported still at Holyhead at 15.00 due to a faulty cable connection between the loco and the train! I was intending to photograph the cl 57 Pendolino haul on the 14.14 Holyhead - Euston but it didn't run of course because of the London bombing outrage. So these were what passed during the 90minutes or so I was at the lineside. I had used the Bodorgan location before but not the other which was an overbridge to the east of Ty Croes. Thursday 7 July 2005: Anne, my wife was at a tai Chee class in Llangefni so I popped over towards Bodorgan whilst I was waiting for her. I was intending to photograph the cl 57 Pendolino haul on the 14.14 Holyhead - Euston but it didn't run of course because of the London bombing outrage. Given the circumstances the images are quite presentable. Had I been shooting on film I probably wouldn't have bothered. Barmouth, atrain from Pwllheli. 20th April 57134 leads a train from Pwllheli at Pensarn on the Cambrian Coast. 16th April Sprinter at Stalybridge. 2nd September 31108 has just eased it's train out of the 'Metal Box' siding and is approaching Westhoughton station. 19th October 37095 enters the loop at Diggle Junction with an eastbound tank train. 7th July Carnforth, 47358 drags drags caustic soda tanks off the Barrow line and onto the WCML. 24th October 6201 southbound in the pouring rain at Ais Gill viaduct. 26th July 87101 pauses at Macclesfield station with a train from Manchester Piccadilly to Euston. 8th September Accrington. 2nd July. A Sprinter from Blackpool to Leeds. There-opening special about to pull up to Bury Bolton Street. I took a number of shots of this event but they were 'borrowed' and not returned by someone from the ELR Leaving macclesfield for Stoke. 8th September 31 429 on pilotb duty pulls out of the east end of Manchester Victoria. I took the opportunity to shoot the 14.14 Holyhead to Euston. This is now a Pendolino hauled by a 57 from Holyhead to Crewe since Monday 13th June. I tyook some of the other services as well. It is now a class 390 'Pendolino' run which involves an additional class 57 drag from Crewe to Holyhead and back. On the first day of the new arrangement 57314 and 390041 wereused on the service and ran on time. These shots are of the 'Balmoral' passing Ynys Seiriol (Puffin Island) off the eastern tip of Anglesey. She was on a cruise from Llandudno to Caernarfon via Menai Bridge. (I was on the island photographing the birds!!). The steam potion of the tour featured BR Standard Pacific No 71000 Duke of Gloucester. The photographs here show the train on the outward run near RAF Valley, turning on the triangle at Valley sidings, pulling the empty stock from the sidings prior to the return leg and finally on the return run between Valley and RAF Valley. First stop was the former Great Western Low Level Station. Later on we had a wander around Oxley shed and finally paid a flying visit to Stourbridge Junction. BR Western Region were intending to dispense with steam by early 1966 and the Wolverhampton area was one of the last strongholds of steam on the region. Star of the day was 7034 'Ince Castle' one of the last five 'Castle' class locos in service. The colour shots here are amongst my earliest, sadly the Agfa slides haven't aged too well. If only I had used Kodachrome!! The train was delayed smewhat at Bromley South apparently because of a points failure . Having missed its path it was about an hour down at Crewe. 47829 was attached to the rear of the train at Crewe to provide heating to and from Holyhead. Unfortunately the weather was cold and wet and frequent recourse was made to the car to warm up.The shots here were all taken in the vicinity of Valley. I had intended to photograph the return trip, but by the time the train left Holyhead an hour lat I'd given up and gone home for a warm. The other shots of course are the normal service trains. 175003 appeared on the 14.30 Holyhead to Llandudno Junction It's 12.46 The Duchess rushes past, the strong wind and the rain forcing down the exhaust. I emerged from the cloud of steam just in time to shoot 47829 at the rear of the train. The 12.17 Crewe to Holyhead formed by 175009 The 12.17 Crewe to Holyhead formed by 175009 A class 221 Wayfarer on the 14.17 Holyhead to Euston 175009 on the 13.35 Holhead to Runcorn East. 6233 eventually appeared to turn on the Valley triangle. Motion 6233 setting off for Holyhead to pick up her train My last shot of the day before returning home cold and damp. 6233 left about half an hour later.

Deputising for a 'Deltic' and running late. 47432 arriving with a train from Newcastle to Kings Cross 37098 heading north with a coal train. 47525 accelerates through the Doncaster on the down fast with a northbound train 45114 arriving at Sheffield with the 08.00 st. Pancras to Glasgow. 47547 has the 13.10 Kings Cross to Bradford. 47416 runs non-stop through the station with the 11.30 Edinburgh to Kings Cross

February 1961 Black Five 4-6-0 No. 44827 is about to leave platform 12 with an afternoon train to Blackpool New Year's Day 1962 a class 40 takes the centre road throuh Victoria with a Newcastle - Liverpool train. My oldest surviving diesel shot It's Saturday 30th December 1961and very cold, the Ilford Sportsman records 'Patriot' No 45517 heading the 10.30 Liverpool Exchange to York via the ex L&Y main line, approaching Moston on the climb aw Early in the New Year 1964 a former WD 2-8-0 climbs towards Rochdale with a mixed freight passing a lock on the then disused Rochdale canal There were always plenty of 2-6-4 tanks to be seen at Victoria. Bank Hall Jubilee No 45698 Mars gets away from platform 13 with the 10.30 am Liverpool Exchange to York train. For many years this loco along with sisters 45717 Dauntless and 45719 Glorious had been t Station pilot/banker 2-6-0 No.46411 drifts back down into the station having given an eastbound freight a shove up the bank to Miles Platting. Stanier 8F passing the back of Manchester Exchange Station Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48745 runs along the through road and sets off up the bank. We travelled down to Newquay on a holiday extra train which left Oldham Clegg Street on the Friday evening. We eventually, after about 12 hours arrived at Plymouth, where we stopped and changed engines. It was here that I took my first ever railway photograph, through the open carriage window, using Dad's Box Brownie 627. This August 1960 shot shows 'B1' 4-6-0 61006 'Blackbuck' of Sheffield Darnall shed waiting to leave Skegness station with a train for Manchester Central. This is 'Grange' 4-6-0 No. 6832 Brockton Grange waiting to leave Newquay with a weekday train. If I remember correctly it was the Newquay portion of the 'Cornish Riviera Express' certainly the coaches And this is my first railway photo, 4967 Shirenewton Hall waits to head west at Plymouth North Road station.
